The latest version of the world’s most popular e-commerce software should be released tomorrow – what’s new?
WooCommerce 2.6, codenamed “Zipping Zebra”, should be released tomorrow and once it’s released you’ll see it pending as an update in your admin area.
There are some new features in WooCommerce 2.6 – we’ll have a quick look at a few here.
You can now have instance-based shipping methods and multiple flat rates without requiring a plugin. If you’re using the flat rate shipping options, you should move to shipping zones as soon as possible as the current methods will be removed from WooCommerce in a future update. We’ll advise further on this when we know more.
Once WooCommerce 2.6 is installed, you’ll see a reminder asking you to set up shipping zones. This reminder also contains a link to more information on how to accomplish this. Unfortunately, the linked page isn’t live on the WooCommerce website yet so we don’t know exactly what’s on it.
The My Account shortcode/pages have been restructured to be tab-based. removing the need for all My Account information to be presented on a single page. This keeps things organised and allows developers to add more tabs if needed.
The cart page operations now use AJAX – this is a method of making changes on a webpage without having to reload the entire page. Actions affected include updating item quantities, removing cart items, applying coupons, and updating shipping options.
Other improvements in WooCommerce 2.6 include the ability for users to filter products by rating in the Layered Nav widget, and plenty of behind-the-scenes tweaks to improve performance and stability.
When can I get WooCommerce 2.6?
WooCommerce 2.6 should be available to download from Tuesday 14 June (usually towards the evening UK time).
